10.30.07 Holy Shit! Time flies by. I see I haven't updated this since July of LAST year. Time for a little catch up. The tour was weird. It was billed as Dewey and The Navigators but without CuzinD or Naren. Then last fall I finished a solo record of songs I wrote when I was about 15. Then I went into the studio to record with Bob Brockman. There really wasn't much of a band, to tell you the truth, but little by little CuzinD, Naren, Brian and I began making some more music again. Honestly, it all comes down to money- as in, we don't really make any considering that we put so much of our heart and soul into what we do- and I know we're not the only ones too. Well, I also started recording some more stuff by myself along with the boys, and some of it is ready to be released, but I have no idea who to release it through. I know I can allow users to digitally download the music from a portal, but I just don't see the point of making money for some faceless corporation I don't even know. Meanwhile the boys did join me for some video footage at Numedia:

07.26.06 So we're in the middle of our tour, and it's been great so far. We played for the first time in Charleston, WV, Decatur, GA and Lake Geneva, WI. Tonight we'll be hitting Madison, WI- though the rumor is the club we're playing at is fairly new and not all that well-known. At any rate, we're still bummed about DC, but we'll be working to get back there ASAP. Meanwhile, it looks like we've got a very friendly circuit being built up around the Asheville to Chicago area loop. Who knows? Omaha may be the coolest thing since sliced bread. You never know where people are gonna really like your stuff. We never would have picked the small town of Asheville to be one of our favorite stops, but now we know that it is one of the coolest places to play. We're happy to be surprised. Seeya on the road, Dewey
05.25.06 Hey, check out our MySpace:
http://www.myspace.com/thenavigators
We put some new songs up there.
05.12.06 So, BG is back from Brazil, it's almost Naren and Dewey's birthday, and D... well, we got D to play on his birthday for tips. How awesome is that? We're so sorry that we didn't get to make it to Louisville- you have no idea. And for the Derby no less. So when are we gonna get this freaking album together? For crying out loud we have 30 songs recorded, it's not like we've been sitting on our duffers or anything. Hell, I don't even know what a duffer is. I do know that we're getting some dates in July as we snake our way through the country and we'd love to hit the left coast in September. For now, this is Dewey Kincade signing off.
02.28.06 It's nearly March. We've got the songs ready to be mixed for our preview, which should be out in a month or two. In the mean-time, all is well in Navigatorland. We're excited about playing at Pete's Candy Store in April. If you're lucky we'll have a CD for you. We make no promises.
01.03.06 Boy, that last post looks a bit ridiculous. Our triumphant return to New York was stymied by the MTA and Roger Toussaint. While we only had a about twenty people show up, that was a lot more than anyone else had that night. Our fans are diehards. It's like they all work for the post-office or something. Neither rain, sleet, or subway strike can stop them. For those that were in fact stopped, don't take it personally. In every group there are those that are casual, those that are avid and those that are hard-core. Either we have a lot of hardcore fans, or we just have a lot more fans overall.
12.10.05 Mark your calenders New Yorkers, for the triumphant return of the Navigators. It has been a loooong time coming. We think you'll find it worth the wait. The recording is going AWESOME! Really, we think you'll love it. In the mean-time you'll just have to fly to NYC to catch the band before we start touring in 2006. In the mean-time, have a happy Festivus.
11.03.05 Hmmmm. That tour section looks a little empty right now. Sorry about that. But it's for a good reason. We've got some recording to do. Well, a lot of recording. See, it's been a while and we need you to hear the new Navs, The Acoustic Navigators, The Electric Navigators, The Sonic Navigators, the Super Holy Psycho Transcendental Navigators- and that's a lot of work. That's a lot of Navigators, to tell you the truth. Hopefully, we'll have a little something for the fans by the Holidays.
10.26.05 We just got back from our tour and I thought I would give you a run-down of the highlights. First, Hammel on Trial is a must see. Actually, the entire Chicago show was a treat. Not only did we play a great set, but we found out that Chicago has the most rabid fans. Anyone know why? Um, I don't have an answer, that's a real question.
Only a few hours from the big town of Chicago, we played the little town of Lawton and it was phenomenal. First of all, the Old Hat Brewery has some of the best beer in the world, and second of all the Blue Gill was fresh- I love freshwater fish!
I also enjoyed Cleveland (though the Holiday Inn Select in downtown Cleveland leaves something to be desired). My folks are from the area originally, so I remember coming to Cleveland a lot as a kid. They didn't have the rock and roll hall of fame when I was a kid. I called up Dad as I was staring at the rock and roll hall of fame, and he asked, "Is that where you'll be playing" and I said, "Sure, in another 20 years.
Though, Cuzin D made a good observation- rock is dead. Okay, maybe that obeservation has been made before, but that was more in a "Hey, maybe if we sound the alarm we can save the life of rock and roll" kind of way. D, was saying that it's already happened and there are people who just haven't realized it yet. And yet, there we were playing rock, weren't we?
Or were we? What is rock and roll, and is it immortal as Neil Young claims? It seems like a while since Neil has put out a rock and roll album, so I'm not so sure. Perhaps rock and roll isn't dead- it's just missing in action. That's not because there aren't people trying their damndest to rock out- we've seen it, we've done it. But rock-stars, need rock audiences. Rock and rollers aren't just the people playing the music- they're the fans driving two hours to see a band. They are the people who are dropping everything to follow their favorite singers and musicians. And we certainly saw these people, but they have become the exception.
Let's face it, rock is dangerous. That's why they call it rock. It might hurt you in the wrong hands and there seems to be an aversion to danger in this country. Would we have gone to war if we knew the toll? Everywhere we look, we see problems- corruption in our government, global warming, dependence on foreign oil, but these problems have solutions. Thing is, these solutions require that we take risks and rather then take risks, we simply await the end of the world.
Maybe rock is dead. But I think rock is capable of a resurrection.
09.30.05 We just got back from a fundraiser in my home-town- Louisville, KY. As always, it was a treat to play in the 'Ville, it was a treat to work with WFPK and it felt especially good to help out with the disaster relief. We met a great singer/songwriter from New Orleans by the name of Shannon McNally. Actually, there were a lot of new friends there. We had the chance to play again with the Duhks, and we played with a very lush sounding band called Hem. It really is a treat to perform alongside so much talent- and you have to give credit to WFPK for having such good taste.
It was on the way back from this trip, that I realized that the Navigators have officially entered a new era. The era of the Navigators 3.0. With Dewey, D, Brian and Naren the Navigators are now a four piece band that can sing four-part harmony a la Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young or maybe even the Beach Boys.
It's all about being musically adventurous. We played a few new songs- new for 3.0, of course. One of them was "Here Comes The Hurricane". A lot of you are familiar with the version from, "Meet the Navigators", but I think the version we did with James Walsh (which you can download by going to our "Music" section), is a much more ferocious version, and that's the version that seemed more appropriate for a Hurricane benefit- especially one in which many of the victims were victimized by our own federal government's negligence. Let's hope we can impeach the President before he does any more damage to this country.
We also debuted, "Can't Afford to Lose a Friend"- a song I recorded on my solo album, "Lost and Found". Again, it seemed well-suited to the occasion. As did, "When the Ship Goes Down". I did want to mention one thing: I actually didn't write that song about September 11th. I wrote it BEFORE 9/11. But I think 9/11 was such a big deal for so many of us New Yorkers, that I think the song came to be a lot more about 9/11. But then the lyrics seem oddly appropriate for the disasters with Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
So check out our message board. I printed up the lyrics.
09.06.05 Strawberry rocked! Go to the message board for more information. We're looking ahead to killing it in NYC. We haven't played a big show in our hometown in MONTHS! You people will need to get out and get down for it, because we've made a few changes and we think you will be pleased with the results.
08.31.05 We hit Pennsylvania last week and they don't know what hit 'em and now... our debut on the Left Coast. Yes, we're going to be rocking Yosemite for the Strawberry music festival. We promise to put up some live stuff, because we know a lot of Navs fans who wanted to be there, but couldn't because it's SOLD OUT. Well, we'll be back to Cali. That's a promise.
08.22.05 Can you believe that someone hacked into our site? It's true, they deleted all the postings on the message board. Which is why we don't have anybody's posting anymore. Maybe you know who did it. If so, we're offering a reward: a private concert with The Navigators. We'll play a set right where you live at your next party. Or if you are the person who did it, just post a message. We're not mad. We're curious. Why would you do that?
In other news, we're getting ready to play some big shows, so check out our tour section.
08.12.05 The tour was a blast. We'd never been as far as Wyoming to tour, and we had a blast. We're looking forward to going further west and playing the Strawberry Music Festival in a few weeks. In the mean-time, we're going to be hard at work making things sound rock solid and working up some new tunes for touring and recording. Stay tuned...
07.19.05 The time has come. Fresh of some recording, we are gearing up to rock out again as we head to Wyoming- and we can't wait to rock. Oh, the things we've learned and the new look we're going to show you. Get ready for something wonderful.
05.07.05 back home in lovely NYC. We will be rockin the east village at the Lakeside lounge May 12th. We had a great time hoppin around the states. From St Louis up to Michigan & Indy to Atlanta. We'll see ya in Wyoming in July! And California come fall!
04.24.05 Louisville ROCKED!!!! Headliners was packed with good people and good energy. This ends another great run with Mofro..those guys are amazin and we cant wait to get back on stage with them. We will be back at headliners in May.

04.12.05 We have another great review, this time translated from the Belgian site www.rootstime.be. We think it's positive:
"It works always, try the but once. A cd set on and will read at the same time Back to the Roots. You remain not sit is good in the reading then the record. You cannot concentrate irritate yourself on the reading, because the cd-player each time some brains, have then you with a good record to make. The last one happened laid with me then I the debut EP "Glory, Glory" of The Navigators in the cd-player, either a Dewey Kincade (guitar, piano, banjo and song), a singer-songwriter from Louisville, that with its fixed companions (bassist Andrew Emer, drummer Phelim White and produce Mark Tewarson on guitar) and single guest musicians (under other Scott Sinclair on guitar and Ethan White on the organ) a beautiful rootsrock EP have. The cd does conceals through the creative playfulness of Dewey Kincade-pearls in six melodious songs, think is of Springsteen, already the sound more a kind of grootsteedse countrysoul, with influences of doll-rock, Americana and folk. As on price number and more open "on-line Epitaph", tones The Navigators their calm folk-doll square, in "I See You Clearly" has the roots-rock the bovenhand, yet however be in this also doll influences interweave. Then there is "The River", a calm acoustic popsong with a beautiful story. "Bow", is then something more old-time country directed in which Kincade its banjokunsten want to see, but there against over state also its beautiful guitar game, as that guitar solo in "Blackout" that certainly do not may unmentioned remain. These last two slow songs “Blackout and “Bow” their influences seek more in the blues and honky tonk. And so could the event that I Back to the Roots next to me put down that dekselse Dewey Kincade to follow in all its creativity, also to the end closed in "I Can' t Breathe" true The Navigators to drawer Stones sound."
04.06.05 I just want to say thanks to Scott, Barry, Carter, Terry and Jordan in Carbon Leaf. Not only are they a great bunch of musicians, but they are also a great bunch of guys to share the road with. We had fun in Maryland and Virginia, and we are looking forward to hitting the road again next week to play some solo dates as well as a few with Mofro. Couldn't help but notice that a lot of new folks signed up on the message board. So post us a little something, allright? We promise to get back to you.
03.02.05 We just received one of our favorite reviews ever, courtesy of a Dutch alt-country website. Since we don't speak Dutch, we plugged the review into Babelfish -- here are the results:
The Navigators also sing in number I the Can't Breathe concerning smokestacks, but nevertheless tap on their EP Glory, Glory from a complete different barrel. The link around Dewey Kincade (jet ear, piano, banjo and song) brings a type metropolitan countrysoul compare whom with difficulty with other artists is. With the knife on the throat I would say: a junction between the Counting Crows and Matthew Ryan, but then differently. And in excelling form. What a link! Plate kicks off with the quiet One Line Epitaph (with deliciously postponed and jubilating end). On the midtemporocker I See You Clearly baby, Dewey with falset climb to the higher voice register, as a result of which here too an comparison with the Stones can be made. Which applies also to the clincher I Can't Breathe. A couple quiet numbers which are notable especially by their clear and nevertheless warm sound. The superbe gitaarsolo on Blackout cannot remain unmentioned. The history of the navigators is simple: Dewey drew Kentucky with girlfriend of Louisville, to New York. Girlfriend left him, but presented him still to Andrew Emer. With drummer Phelim White these EP were vervolgens taken. Meanwhile in White Rauch replace by Brian Griffin and moreover an extra gitarist have been attracted, run after. The navigators might their way find also in this composition, however, to the general public. And glorie them at part of falls. (Hugo bird)
If you do read Dutch, check out the review here.
02.20.05 Great show in Nashville last night at the Exit/In! As usual, Mofro rocked the house and we had the chance to warm up the kind folks in Tennessee. Shout out to all who ate up our merch, we will be back soon. Also, just added Headliners in Louisville (4/23) ... of course, with the badass unit that is - Mofro. Over and out.
02.09.05 The Navs will be playing a few tunes on-air at one of our favorite radio stations ever, WFPK/Louisville, on Thursday, 2/10 at around 3 pm. If you're from Louisville, you know this station well ... but if not, you can listen live here. And all you 'Villians, please come out to the gig at the Rudyard Kipling that night!
02.04.05 Hey everyone -- Cowboy Technical, the Williamsburg studio where we recorded Glory, Glory, just got a write-up in Mix Magazine. Check out the article here.
01.31.05 So those of you who attended the Melissa Ferrick/Navs shows can attest to what a fab group of outings this was. Melissa (one of the best guitarists I have seen and a great song writer too!) was kind enough to bring the Navs to help swing these concert halls. We had a great time playing the Higher Ground in Burlington, VT -- what a great space -- and also Revolution Hall in Troy, NY. Look for us this weekend @ T.T. the Bear's in Cambridge, MA (2/3) and on Friday @ Unity Center for the Performing Arts in Unity, ME. You also can find us at the good ole Half Door in Hartford, CT on Saturday night.
See ya out there !
P.S. Who ever it was that shouted "Hurricane" on Friday night in Burlington -- sorry, we promise to do ya up with a category 5 'cane' next time.
01.19.05 Happy New Year! What better way to start the coldest time of the year, then by going to the coldest parts of the country? Vermont, Maine, Massachusetts and New Hampshire are all on our radar in the upcoming month. I've heard a lot of New Yorkers complain about the cold, but they've never been in Boston in January. It gets cold up there. But that doesn't seem to stop the natives from getting out and shaking a leg. Cold weather just can't slow these people down. Twenty below? No problem! True, there are those natives who reach their "cold wall" and eventually move down South. But ask any Vermonter about these Southern migration, and they'll tell you that it raises the average intelligence in both places.
12.20.04 Now that our gig at the Metronome has come and passed (see the message board), we are on hiatus until 2005. Yes, I hate to say it, but we WILL see you next year. And we hope that 2005 brings as many (pleasant) surprises to the Navs as 2004 did. When you see us again in 2005, we can promise you one thing: you will hear something new and different. Ironically that's the one constant with the Navigators- things will always be a bit different the next time. Until then, have have a happyp New Year!
12.06.04 Friday night's gig at the Mercury lounge rocked, and if you missed you're going to have to go to Vermont or wait until 2005. We can assure you that there will be PLENTY of oppurtunities to see the Navigators in 2005- regardless of where you live.
11.12.04 The second leg of tour went well. We kicked things off at the Point in Bryn Mawr. It was chill so Dewey played acoustic the whole time and we debuted a song "Roll Baby Roll"- which definitely seemed to be the theme of our tour. Two highlights of the tour were Asheville, NC and Lexington, KY. We might even have some live tracks to put up on the site from Lexington. We'll be sure to let you know when we do. For those of you who were unable to get to any of the gigs, we promise more touring coming up! Go to the message board to see more in depth chit-chat regarding our tour.
10.20.04 getting ready to leave for tour -see the tour section for dates! We rocked Annapolis last saturday w/Ben Arnold and had a blast on sunday playin up at the Iron Horse Music Hall in north Hampton, MA...wow what a great space. we will be back at the Iron horse Hall on 10/31 to rock your Halloween upside down and out again. Pls be advised that The Navigators are currently hazing our drummer and guitarist..pls post any ideas to the message board.
10.13.04 The Bowery Ballroom ROCKED!!!!! thanks to all those who came out. The joint was at capacity and man...what a pleasure it was to play w/Dan Bern - a true American folk poet. Off to Baltimore this weekend ..come on down if your in the area otherwise we will see you on the road! New merchandise available at shows now plus new posters - sorry but we dis-continued the centerfold style posters of John Ashcroft ..the demand wasn't there..go figure!
10.01.04 So thanks to everyone who came out to our secret, unannounced show at Lincoln Center. It's amazing to play a venue that big (and nice). We like to think of it as the pre-beginning of our concert hall tour. At any rate, we will be playing another concert hall soon -- our fave, The Bowery Ballroom, on October 9 with Dan Bern. Please come out and say hi.
09.21.04 The Navigators are taking the East by storm. We had a great show in Arlington, VA at the IOTA last night & will be bringin some Nav's goodness to Beantown this Friday, supporting the Damnwells at Harper's Ferry. This will be a great line up -- we love the Damnwells and our music is a great match. So, all that leaves are a few nagging questions: who is Chronic? who is Spanky? What can you do to help change our current political climate? By the way -- The Navs will be at Lincoln Center next week for a private show ... sorry we can't invite you, but we promise to make it up to you at Bowery Ballroom on Oct. 9th. Go in peace and navigation.
09.14.04 All good at Navigator HQ. Were gonna support Dan Bern at The Bowery Ballroom on Oct 9th. We have been busy writing new songs and preparing for our fall tours. Newness abounds and the songs are bursting forth - drop a line at the message board.
08.30.04 The Navigators have been quietly plotting behind the scenes. New songs, new sounds, new booking, new everything really. The band is around so the message boards are updated and we have some top secret but VERY exciting news to splash you down with as soon as the fall begins ... stay tuned.
07.23.04 Mercury Show rocked, new songs out on the table and no rain means the Nav's are on a roll. 8/13 in Boston is the next place to be. We will be taking the NYC Bourbon Rocksters Leroy Justice with us to show Beantown how it's done. Common Ground 8/13 - see yas there!
07.07.04 7/7/04 - The Rocks off Cruise was a smash - thanks to all for a great show. The Nav's will be supporting JAMES MCMURTRY at the Mercury Lounge, NYC on 7/21, 9pm (real start time). we have new songs, a new album, new drawers..it's all there. come on down and check it.
06.22.04 The boat cruise is right around the corner, people, and we have some surprises in store for you. The big news is that Dewey has been writing up a storm- he wrote four songs this Sunday. Plan on hearing a lot of new songs at the next Navs show. Of course, there will be plenty of hits too. You should let us know what your favorite hit is, by posting a message on our message board. Go on... we dare you.
06.04.04 Hey Nav's fans! So, our first record is done! a day the band never dreamed they would see. Release date to come stay tuned. On June 30th we are set to sail around Manhattan rockin all the boozers(that includes us)on the ROCKS OFF cruise so make sure and get yer tix early as last year's cruise sold out. This year has kick ass bands. El Navigators along with fellow touring friends Freeloader & Leroy Justice. Coming soon: Navigators t-shirts. Thanks to all who rocked our last Merc show another fine New York city evening where for some reason despite the Navigators playing a gig...it didn't rain. Dewey will be taking requests for his next five solo shows. Andrew loves his doghouse and Chalky is to busy polishing the rims on his new PT cruiser to care.
04.14.04 Just added a gig in Boston supporting the Blue Dogs. Good stuff. Deets are in the tour section. Also knocked out a killer version of "The River" in the studio ... wow.
